| 1 | | "Two-dish-rice" in Hong Kong is equivalent to "mixed rice" in Singapore. When I first came to Singapore about 30 years ago, the "mixed rice" was already a common food, along with the others such as fish ball noodle, Bah Ku Teh, BBQ meat, Hainan chicken rice, Indian foods and Muslim foods etc, in the hawker centers there. The availability of mixed rice is not price-driven but simply served as a choice to customers.
The price then was about the same as the price of the others. A dish of "2 vegetable, 1 meat and rice" was about S$2.50 (approx. HK$14-15 based on current exchange rate). Nowadays, mixed rice is about S$4 (approx. HK$22).
Perhaps, the increasing popularity of "two-dish-rice" is a sign of regression or stagnation in Hong Kong. | 2025-05-19 16:58:04 |
